Back up first, make sure you know your Apple Account password, update iOS if you can, remove the case and SIM, and bring proof of purchase. Never give your passcode to anyone.
A repair can end with a replacement phone, so treat every visit as if the phone might be erased.
The checklist
- Back up to iCloud (Settings › your name › iCloud › iCloud Backup) or to a Mac or PC.
- Check you can sign in to your Apple Account and have access to your trusted phone number.
- Update to the latest iOS if the phone works well enough — some fixes are software only.
- Note any WhatsApp or banking app reactivation steps; many banks need a call or SMS to move to a new phone.
- Remove the case, screen protector, physical SIM and any MagSafe accessories.
- Bring your invoice and AppleCare+ confirmation if you have one.
Find My and Repair State
Recent iOS versions let the technician put the phone into a repair state without turning Find My off, so the phone stays linked to you. If you're asked to turn Find My off, do it yourself — you shouldn't need to hand over your password.
Protect your privacy
- Don't share your passcode or Apple Account password.
- If the screen works, you can erase the phone yourself after backing up.
- For independent shops, ask how they handle data and whether they need the phone unlocked.
After the repair
- Check Settings › General › About › Parts and Service History.
- Test Face ID, cameras, speakers, microphones and charging before leaving.
- Restore from your backup, then sign in to banking and messaging apps.
