A small number of US iPhone 18 Pro Max units on AT&T lost service. Apple says affected phones need a hardware replacement. UAE models use Apple's C2 modem and aren't affected.
This one matters to UAE buyers mainly if you're considering a US-model iPhone 18 Pro Max — for example, one bought while travelling or imported by a reseller.
What happened
After launch, some iPhone 18 Pro Max owners on AT&T found their phones stuck in SOS mode or connecting extremely slowly. The issue appears limited to the Pro Max, which uses a Qualcomm modem in the US. The 18 Pro, which uses Apple's C2 modem, appears unaffected.
Did iOS 27.0.1 fix it?
AT&T initially urged customers to update to iOS 27.0.1, but many affected users still had no service. Apple then confirmed that software and carrier updates prevent the issue from affecting more phones, but devices that have already lost service need a hardware replacement.
What it means in the UAE
- UAE-model iPhone 18 Pro Max units use Apple's C2 modem.
- If you're offered a US-model Pro Max, ask about its service history and whether it has been replaced.
- Check the exact model number and SIM configuration before you buy — US models are eSIM-only.
General connectivity fixes (any network)
- Update iOS and accept any carrier settings update.
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off.
- Restart the phone.
- Check Settings › Cellular to make sure your line is turned on.
- As a last resort, Reset Network Settings (this removes saved Wi-Fi passwords).
