Buy it if the large screen solves a real problem for you and you are ready to protect it. If you just want 'the newest iPhone', iPhone 18 Pro is the lower-risk choice.
First-generation Apple products are often brilliant and sometimes flawed. Apple has had years to watch Samsung, Google and others refine foldables, so iPhone Duo is a mature first attempt. Still, a few things are worth weighing before spending AED 8,499 or more.
Reasons to buy now
- A 7.6-inch screen and Split View that no other iPhone offers.
- The same A20 Pro chip as iPhone 18 Pro, so it won't feel slow for years.
- IP68 water and dust resistance — still uncommon on foldables.
- Apple's long software support, and iOS designed around the fold.
Reasons to wait
- Second-generation models usually fix early quirks and often add features — a telephoto camera is the obvious candidate.
- Some apps will take time to fully optimise for the new screen shape.
- Repairs to a folding display or hinge are likely to cost much more than on a regular iPhone.
How to look after a foldable iPhone
- Don't put a regular screen protector on the inner display. It uses a special polymer surface — use only accessories designed for iPhone Duo.
- Keep sand and grit out of the hinge. A beach day in Jumeirah is exactly where a folio case earns its keep.
- Close the phone gently and avoid pressing hard on the inner screen with fingernails or sharp objects.
- Avoid leaving it in a hot car. Extreme heat is bad for every phone battery, and foldables have two.
Protection is not optional
Whether you choose Apple's iPhone Duo Folio or Case, or a third-party option, protect both halves and the hinge. An extended warranty or repair protection plan is worth pricing in from day one.
