Short answer
Yes if you're coming from iPhone 15 Pro or older, or you care about photography. No if you have iPhone 17 Pro.
Two weeks after launch, with iOS 27.0.1 fixing the worst early bugs, here's our buying verdict.
Pros
- The best iPhone camera yet, with real variable aperture.
- A20 Pro and an improved vapor chamber — fast and cool under load.
- Strong battery life, especially on the Pro Max.
- Smaller Dynamic Island with three Live Activities.
- 256GB base storage, up to 2TB.
Cons
- $100 more than iPhone 17 Pro at launch.
- Design and display are largely unchanged.
- Early bugs — Face ID restarts, audio crackle reports — though the biggest are fixed.
- No major AI feature exclusive to it.
Who should upgrade
- iPhone 13 Pro, 14 Pro and earlier owners: a huge leap in every area.
- iPhone 15 Pro owners who want better battery life and a much better camera.
- Photographers and video creators on any older model.
Who should wait
- iPhone 17 Pro owners.
- iPhone 16 Pro owners who are happy with their battery.
- Anyone who wants the standard iPhone 18 (reported for spring 2027).
Should you worry about the bugs?
Update to iOS 27.0.1 or later straight away. The Face ID restart bug, the 2x photo artifact and the touchscreen freeze are fixed. The AT&T issue affects some Pro Max units in the US only.
