Is the iPhone 18 Pro worth it for battery life?

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max battery life explained: 36 vs 45 hours video playback, what that means in real use, and how it compares with older iPhones.

Short answer

The Pro Max, yes — Apple calls it its biggest battery-life increase ever. The 6.3-inch Pro is improved but not transformed.

Battery life is the number-one reason people upgrade. Here's what to realistically expect.

Apple's ratings

ModelVideo playback
iPhone 18 ProUp to 36 hours
iPhone 18 Pro MaxUp to 45 hours

In real life

Video playback ratings are lab tests. Real-world screen-on time depends on brightness, signal, heat and apps. As a rule of thumb, a recent Pro Max with a healthy battery can manage 9–12 hours of mixed screen-on time. See our screen-on time guide for more.

Coming from an older iPhone?

If you have iPhone 15 Pro or older with a worn battery, either iPhone 18 Pro model will feel like a huge jump.
