Move the phone out of the sun, take it out of the case, and let it cool on its own — don't put it in a fridge. Never leave an iPhone on a car dashboard. Heat is the biggest long-term enemy of iPhone battery health.
Apple says iPhone works best between 0°C and 35°C ambient. Summer in the UAE regularly goes far above that, especially in parked cars.
What your iPhone does when it's too hot
- Charging slows or pauses above about 80%.
- The display dims.
- Camera flash may be disabled.
- Performance drops, especially in games and navigation.
- A 'Temperature: iPhone needs to cool down' screen appears; only emergency calls work.
Cooling it safely
- Move into shade or air conditioning.
- Remove the case.
- Stop charging and close the camera, maps and games.
- Leave it to cool naturally — no fridge, freezer or ice packs; condensation can damage it.
Habits that protect your battery
- Never leave the phone on the dashboard or in a parked car.
- Use a vent mount, not a windscreen mount in direct sun, when navigating.
- Avoid wireless charging in a hot car.
- Turn on Optimised Charging or the 80% limit in Settings › Battery › Charging.
iPhone 18 Pro
The iPhone 18 Pro's larger vapor chamber helps it sustain performance in warm conditions, and early owners report it stays usable outdoors on sunny days. It still follows the same temperature limits.
