Short answer
Warmth in the first few days, during fast charging, gaming or camera use is normal. A temperature warning, extreme heat or a swollen case is not — stop using it and get it checked.
iPhone 18 Pro has Apple's improved vapor chamber, but no phone is immune to physics — especially in a UAE summer.
Why a new iPhone gets warm
- Setup and restore: for the first day or two, your phone downloads apps, photos and indexes data in the background.
- Fast charging: charging generates heat, and fast charging generates more.
- Gaming, 4K video and navigation push the chip hard.
- Weak signal makes the modem work harder.
- Direct sun or a hot car can push any phone past its safe temperature.
Is it normal to get hot while charging?
Warm, yes. Too hot to hold, no. iOS manages charging to protect the battery and may pause or slow charging above 80% when the phone is warm. That's a safety feature, not a fault.
How to cool it down
- Move it out of the sun and away from car dashboards.
- Remove a thick case while charging or gaming.
- Stop demanding tasks for a few minutes.
- Charge on a hard, ventilated surface — never under a pillow.
- Use a reputable USB-C charger and cable.
- Check Settings › Battery for any app using unusual background power.
When to worry
- A temperature warning appears.
- The phone is too hot to hold when idle.
- You notice a swelling case, unusual smell or the screen lifting.
